In 1966, during the Vietnam War, U.S. Navy Commander Jeremiah Denton was forced to participate in a televised interview intended as propaganda by his North Vietnamese captors. Throughout the interview, Denton ingeniously used Morse code by blinking his eyes to spell out the word “T-O-R-T-U-R-E,” covertly informing U.S. intelligence that American prisoners of war were being subjected to torture.
