The University of Florida offers a wide range of resources for history graduate students in diverse fields and subfields of study. PhD students indicate their major field interest or may indicate their preference for a dual major when they apply to the program.
M.A. Program - Department of History
The Department of History offers a degree program that enables outstanding undergraduate majors to obtain a B.A. and an M.A. after the successful completion of 150 credit hours.

We have well-established programs in Latin American and Caribbean History, which is regularly ranked among the top 10 programs in the country, and in American History; we also have growing programs in the Atlantic World, European history, and African history.

Major and Minor Requirements - Department of History
The history major requires students to complete 36 hours of history courses within the total of 120 hours for a bachelor’s degree from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Courses used to meet the requirements of another major or minor may not be used toward the major in history.

We welcome applications from students with records of strong academic performance who intend to devote full-time study to attain their graduate degree in history, whether the PhD or the MA. PREPARATION AND FOCUS – A successful applicant to our program generally has: A strong background in history.
