U.S. President Donald Trump threatened on Sunday to interfere with a deal to build a new football stadium in Washington, D.C., unless the local NFL team, now known as the Commanders, changes its name back to Redskins.
Trump announced on Sunday that “the Washington ‘Whatever’s’ should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team” and claimed that “there is a big clamoring for this.” A short time later, he threatened to prevent the team from building a new stadium in D.C. if the name wasn’t changed back to the offensive one.
