Gov. Greg Abbott told higher education system leaders that he will not support tuition increases in next two academic years

Texas universities should not approve tuition increases for the next two years, Gov. Greg Abbott said Wednesday. In a letter to higher education leaders, he cited families’ rising costs of living.

Last year, Abbott signed a law that froze undergraduate tuition and fees for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years.

The governor’s directive extends a tuition freeze for Texas’ public universities that was approved in the last legislative session.
