Texas Senate Democrats staged their exit from the chamber Tuesday just before state Sen. Charles Perry, R-Lubbock, moved to open up debate on the redistricting bill. The nine Democratic members slowly filed out of the chamber in a single file line.

The Texas House of Representatives is set to reconvene on Monday after Democratic lawmakers left the state last week to stop a vote on a new congressional map that could give Republicans five more seats.

Democrats concede there’s only so much they can do to keep Texas from redrawing its maps. But they want to encourage blue states to retaliate.
