Two people are dead after former hurricane John barreled into Mexico’s southern Pacific coast, blowing tin roofs off houses, triggering mudslides and toppling scores of trees.

TAMPA, FL — Tropical Storm Helene has developed and will pass west of us on Thursday as a hurricane, it will bring impacts to our area, especially at the coast. A hurricane will likely track north and make landfall on Thursday night somewhere between Apalachicola and Dixie County.

A potential hurricane -- which would be named Helene -- is churning in the Caribbean and could take aim at the Florida Panhandle by the end of the week. The system has a 90% chance of strengthening into Tropical Storm Helene.
