Scotland is to be hit with a blast of snow from the Arctic next week. Large parts of the country will see widespread snowfall as the Met Office issued two weather warnings over Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The first warning covering the north of Scotland comes into force at 4pm on Sunday and continues to 11am on Monday.

Temperatures are set to drop across the UK - with the Met Office warning of an "increasing risk of wintry hazards" in the region next week.

The Met Office has suggested swathes of the UK could be set for a cold snap next week, with many areas also told to prepare for the possibility of waking up to a dusting of snow. But while the official long-range forecast has warned of "wintry showers" - including snow - predicting Britain's weather is rarely a straightforward affair.

Forecasters say it is too early to predict exactly where the wintry weather will hit, but are confident of a "cold spell" next week.
