A mosquito in Madisonville tested positive for West Nile virus, the first confirmed detection in Cincinnati this year. Health officials found the mosquito through their routine surveillance for mosquito-borne diseases such as West Nile virus, in which they trap and test mosquito samples from neighborhoods throughout the city.

In 2024, the city of Cincinnati had 24 West Nile virus positive mosquito pools. The average has been six positive pools over the past 10 years. However, no human infections were reported. The last confirmed case of West Nile virus infection of a Cincinnati resident was in 2015.
