Wayne police were conducting a welfare check when a man armed with two swords bounded downstairs and started running at an officer, who opened fire.
The incident occurred just after 11:30 a.m. near Getty and Crooks avenues, when a driver from Madison crashed into four other cars and then hit a 52-year-old pedestrian from Newton.
