Archaeologists uncover site of America’s first Christmas near Florida capitol
Florida archaeologists have confirmed a stunning find hidden in plain sight: the site of Hernando de Soto’s winter encampment of 1539–1540 — and the location of the first Christmas ever celebrated on land that would become the United States.
Florida's next Buc-ee's is expected to be on the outskirts of Tallahassee, just north of Interstate 10 at the Capital Circle Northwest exit. The new Buc-ee's is slated to be part of a 73-acre development with more than 20 acres of commercial land and 60 acres zoned for residential properties, the Tallahassee Democrat reports.
As lawmakers return to Tallahassee next month, Visit Florida may once again face scrutiny over whether the state’s tourism bureau is still worth its roughly $80 million annual price tag.

Duce Robinson, who surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in 2025, seemed coy when asked about his return earlier in the year, stating that there was a time and place to make that decision. Robinson was Florida State’s first 1,000-yard receiver since 2019 and the 14th 1,000-yard receiver in program history.
The only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed private residence in Florida, known as Spring House, is on the market for $2.1 million. Built in 1954 for the Lewis family, the home is a unique hemicycle design and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
