Schottenheimer has emerged as a strong candidate for the opening after undergoing a pair of interviews with Cowboys brass this week.

According to reports, Dallas owner Jerry Jones is set to promote offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach.

The Dallas Cowboys are finalizing a deal to promote offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach, as reported by Clarence Hill of the All City Netwo

Schottenheimer has been in Dallas the past three seasons, spending the last two as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator.

The OC and the club met for 4 hours Tuesday, but will continue talks Wednesday. Whether that means things are heating up is unclear.

Schottenheimer has never been a head coach but he's been the Cowboys' OC and has a good rapport with Dak Prescott.

That leaves us with two head-coaching vacancies available in the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints. While bad weather in the southeast delayed the Saints' interview process, I would be shocked if Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady does not come home.
