Residents say they are hearing ambulance sirens and fire trucks racing to the scenes and rescue workers are working to find casualties in the rubble.
Residents of Tehran reported long lines at gas stations and traffic jams as people rushed to flee the city, anticipating more attacks from Israel. Officials told people near locations including refineries to leave if they could and recommended that people seek refuge in metro stations.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei reportedly seeks refuge in a Tehran bunker as Israel launched strikes. Following a Mashhad strike, sources indicate Israel spared Khamenei to give him a "final chance" to dismantle Iran's uranium enrichment program.
