Ethan Nieneker faces capital murder charges for allegedly shooting three people, including a 4-year-old girl, during a carjacking at an Austin Target store.

In 2016, APD misidentified another murdered transgender woman, Monica Loera. In that case, as with Rosa’s murder, it fell to her friends and family to tell the media and APD otherwise. For the friends and family of a victim, this is an additional burden to deal with while grieving a loved one.

According to the affidavit obtained by CBS Austin, Austin Police say 32-year-old Ethan Nieneker carried out a deadly, unprovoked attack in the Target parking lot at 8601 Research Blvd., killing 24-year-old Hector Martinez-Machuca, 65-year-old Adam Chow, and Chow’s 4-year-old granddaughter.
