Britain is bracing for potentially life-threatening winds, rains and snowfall as a severe storm rolls in from the southwest of England during what already has been one of the country's worst cold snaps in years.

Strong winds will make travel difficult on Monday, and forecasters warned of more than half a foot of snow on some mountains.

Some light, scattered freezing rain is likely to fall starting around 8 p.m. and continuing through Wednesday morning.
