As Texas hurtles toward a flashpoint on a GOP effort to redraw congressional districts, California Democrats are answering with a plan of their own.

A leaked map by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Commission reveals California's redistricting plans after Governor Gavin Newsom pledged to “END THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY."

The state’s voters would need to approve redrawing of congressional maps in a special election Nov. 4.

Gov. Gavin Newsom is advocating for California to redraw its congressional districts and offset a similar GOP-led effort in Texas.

The missive was part of Newsom's response to a Trump-backed redistricting plan in Texas that could give Republicans up to five more seats in Congress. Newsom announced he would pursue a special election to redraw California's own congressional maps — an effort to offset potential GOP gains.

The measure, which would appear on the ballot in the state in November if lawmakers approve it, is a response to Texas Republicans' mid-decade redistricting push.

"This is a guy who lays claim to want to get a Nobel Prize, sitting there and bending his knee to Mr. Putin," Newsom told a fired-up crowd.
