FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem's pitch of F1 returning to V10 engines with sustainable fuels has provoked debate

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has suggested that Formula 1 should be open to multiple options for its next engine regulations, including a potential return to V10s. Formula 1 has not used V10 engines for almost two decades, with the units phased out after 2005, and dropped entirely after 2006.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem pitched a few ideas for Formula 1's future, including a revival of V10 engines.

It's not the first time an F1 official has said something along these lines—last year F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali also teased the return of naturally aspirated engines. F1 is moving to sustainable fuels from next year, so as long as the energy required to make those fuels comes from wind or solar, it matters not whether the cars have hybrid systems.
