Poirier (30-9 MMA, 22-8 UFC) returns to the cage in a retirement bout this Saturday in the main event of UFC 318 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+ ), which takes place at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. He takes on former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway (26-8 MMA, 22-8 UFC) in a trilogy bout.

Dustin Poirier really is going for the fairytale ending to his career with a fight booked against Max Holloway in his home state of Louisiana at UFC 318. Jon Jones barely let the ink dry on his retirement paperwork before declaring his intention to return but Poirier’s longtime head coach Mike Brown really does believes this is the final fight for the one-time interim UFC lightweight champion.

Poirier previously revealed that he had asked to finish his series with Justin Gaethje. After the Louisianan emerged victorious from their memorable first battle, Gaethje knocked Poirier out at UFC 291 to exact his revenge and capture the BMF belt.
