Amid a heated competition with the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies for Tatsuya Imai, the New York Yankees are reportedly making something clear about their preferences in the MLB offseason.
This issue has already reared its ugly head during the current MLB offseason. While star slugger Kyle Tucker is still a free agent, the consensus is that there's essentially no chance he'll be returning to Chicago because they simply won't be willing to pay him the $350 to $425 million he's going to command from another club.
The Athletic's Jim Bowden lists the Cubs as his number one free agent "match" for Imai. The one problem for the Cubs is that Bowden also lists the highly competitive Yankees and Mets as the other best matches for Imai.
