Russia launched a heavy drone and missile attack on Ukraine early on Friday, killing six people in Kyiv and two more in the south in strikes on energy facilities, apartment buildings and infrastructure,
Friday's attack adds to growing anger and frustration among Kyiv residents as they face winter cold and darkness amid rampant power outages.
Russia has carried out a wave of attacks on Ukraine overnight which President Volodymyr Zelensky said had killed at least four people. Zelensky added that about 430 drones and 18 missiles were used in attacks on “civilian infrastructure”.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Friday that his troops had used long-range Ukrainian "Long Neptune" cruise missiles on targets in Russia overnight, adding that such strikes were getting more successful all the time.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared a video that he said showed his country's new "Long Neptune" cruise missile, which has a range of up to 1,000km (621 miles), in action against Russia.
A Russian drone has hit a tower block in eastern Ukraine, killing three people and injuring 12, according to Ukrainian authorities.
