Las Vegas Metro Police unveiled their new drone operation center this week, marking a significant advancement in the department’s technology capabilities.

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission said on Wednesday it is exempting imports of some new models of foreign-made drones and critical components from a sweeping import ban adopted in December.

The drones will be deployed in response to calls, not regularly "up in the air watching people," an official said.

Paris-based Exail Technologies confirmed the two new contracts for its DriX H-9 autonomous surface vessel (USV) on January 7, 2026. “These innovations respond to the multiplication of threats in the maritime domain,” the company stated.

The U.S. Commerce Department said on Friday it has withdrawn a plan to impose restrictions on Chinese drones to address national security concerns after an earlier crackdown on passenger cars and trucks.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department marked another step in advancing its drone program by unveiling its state-of-the-art drone operation center on Wednesday. According to Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren,

At the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fusion Watch and Drone Operations Center Wednesday afternoon, an alarm went off as rows of workers looked at a sea of screens that showed real-time feeds from cameras around Las Vegas.

Small drones are "the defining threat of our time," Brig. Gen. Ross said, requiring a layered defense network to stop them.

The Marine Corps is adding six new piloting courses as the service prepares to field tens of thousands of commercial drones in the coming year.
