Google Maps updated its map Monday to show the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America for users in the United States. The change came after the name was updated in the Geographic Names Information System database, which Google Maps previously said it follows for naming conventions in the U.S.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Apple renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on its maps Tuesday after an order by President Donald Trump was made official by the U.S. Geographic Names Information System.

Google is among the first companies to change the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America on its maps. Other sources for online maps have not yet followed Donald Trump's executive order.
