The WNBA's players association announced Thursday that its members voted to authorize a strike if necessary as the extended Jan. 9 deadline for contract negotiations with the league looms.

Players from the WNBA voted overwhelmingly in favor of allowing the executive committee for the Women's National Basketball Players Association "to call a strike when necessary."

Increased salaries and revenue sharing are two big areas that the sides aren't close on.
