CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday said that the company intends to make several thousand units of its Optimus humanoid robot this year for deployment in its own factory which will inform the next version of the robot slated for launch next year and likely to be sold to rival companies.

Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA)'s CEO Elon Musk shared an ambitious vision for its humanoid robot, Optimus, suggesting a potential to generate revenues exceeding $10 trillion. According to Musl, the training needs for Optimus are significantly higher than those for its automotive products,

Musk noted an autonomous fleet could see vehicles utilized an average of 55 hours per week, vs. the current average for vehicles to be utilized just ten hours a week on average. As a first step, Musk said Austin will see an initial launch of unsupervised FSD in Austin in June, and expects California and other states to follow.

Elon Musk says that Tesla aims to build 10,000 Optimus robots this year, but he admits that it is an ambitious goal. With Tesla’s automotive business being down last year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk turned again to humanoid robots to stoke positivity amongst investors.
