Spain is battling a series of devastating wildfires that have killed two people and destroyed thousands of hectares of forest and scrubland. There are currently 14 major active fires, Minister for Ecological Transition Sara Aagesen told radio station Cadena Ser on Wednesday.

A volunteer firefighter died from severe burns and several people were hospitalised in dozens of wildfires that raged across Spain on Wednesday, fuelled by strong winds and scorching heat. At least six large fires were still out of control,

Countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece have seen highs of more than 40 degrees Celsius in recent days.
