Cleanup continues at the site where a train carrying 35 cars derailed on Tuesday in Palo Pinto County. Due to damage sustained to some of the cars, officials began a liquid flare operation on Wednesday to safely dispose of the propane the damaged cars were carrying. That operation will continue throughout the day Thursday.

Roughly 35 Union Pacific train cars derailed about 2 p.m. Tuesday, two miles east of the town of Gordon, Texas, Union Pacific officials said in a statement to WFAA-TV. The derailment occurred at the Coalville Road Bridge, according to a news release that the Emergency Services District posted to Facebook.

A train carrying hazardous cargo derailed as it was traveling through a small North Texas town on Tuesday, August 13, sparking several grass fires in the area. State fire authorities say the site will remain an active scene for several days as crews work to move rails cars off the track and put out the fires.
