What the Canucks want is a legit defenseman who can play with the team this season and next. The best Klingberg would be is an experiment. If that experiment fails and the Canucks miss the playoffs, their fans may have a field day with the results.

There has been a lot of speculation connecting the Edmonton Oilers to free-agent defenseman John Klingberg over the past few days.  The last time we saw Klingberg in the NHL was in 2023-24 when he was a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs and it was not pretty.

The Edmonton Oilers have been looking for a defenceman ahead of the trade deadline, and seem to have found one that interests them. According to several reports, they are expressing interest in John Klingberg,

TSN: The NHL trade deadline is seven weeks away and the Four Nations Face-Off starts in four weeks. Darren Dreger polled each GM and spoke to a number of them, asking how the trade deadline would be affected.

John Klingberg is closing in on an NHL return, and the Maple Leafs, Senators and Oilers are all reportedly interested in the veteran D-man.
