Americana and alt-country singer-songwriter Joe Ely's legacy will live on through his wife, Sharon Ely, and their daughter, Marie Elena Ely.

“Legendary songwriter, singer, and raconteur Joe Ely died today from complications of Lewy Body Dementia, Parkinson’s and pneumonia,” began a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Monday.

Ely was born in Amarillo in 1947 and became a pivotal part of Austin’s progressive country and Americana scene throughout the Seventies and Eighties.
