Today is Intel’s Q1 2025 earnings call, and the first we’re truly hearing from new Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who took over the company on March 18th. But he didn’t wait until the call to announce major changes at Intel, nor did he begin his reign by laying off 20 percent of the company’s employees, as Bloomberg reported he might.

In March, when Intel appointed new CEO Lip-Bu Tan, he wrote that he intended to "remake" the struggling Bay Area tech giant. On Thursday, that effort became more tangible for workers - Tan is amping up Intel's in-office requirement and planning to lay off a chunk of its staff.

Intel says that it'll require employees to work from the office four days a week, a shift from the company's old policy.
