On the opening day of free agency, Carolina swung a sign-and-trade for Rangers defenseman K’Andre Miller, sending first- and second-round picks and defensive prospect Scott Morrow to New York while inking Miller to an eight-year, $60 million contract.

The long wait for Nikolaj Ehlers’ free agent decision is over. Ehlers decided to sign with the Carolina Hurricanes, taking the top player available off the market more than 72 hours since the NHL’s signing period began.

RALEIGH, N.C. - Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Nikolaj Ehlers on a six-year contract. The deal will pay Ehlers an Average Annual Value (AAV) of $8.5 million through the 2030-31 season.
