The Springdale Chamber of Commerce said in a statement that the closure of the live turkey production plant will affect close to 1,000 employees, their families, and the broader Springdale community.

"This was not an easy decision to make ... However, it is the right move to make for the future of our turkey business," said Cargill in a statement.

Cargill will close its turkey processing plant in Springdale on Aug. 1, a company spokesperson confirmed Tuesday. This will cost about 1,100 people their jobs. Cargill's spokesperson said this is the right move to make for the future of the company's turkey business.
